Charles Pinckney National Historic Site

Charles Pinckney was a principal author and a signer of the United States Constitution. This remnant of his coastal plantation is preserved to tell the story of a "forgotten founder," his life of public service, the lives of enslaved African Americans on South Carolina Lowcountry plantations and their influences on Charles Pinckney.

 Directions

Charles Pinckney National Historic Site is located six miles north of Charleston off U.S. 17.

From Interstate 95
Take I-95 to I-26 east toward Charleston. Take I-526 exit number 212-C toward Mt. Pleasant. After crossing over the Wando River into Mt. Pleasant, take the first exit onto Long Point Road. Turn left onto Long Point Road and follow it for approximately 2 miles. Charles Pinckney National Historic Site will be on the right.

From Interstate 26
Take I-526 exit number 212-C toward Mt. Pleasant. After crossing over the Wando River into Mt. Pleasant, take the first exit onto Long Point Road. Turn left onto Long Point Road and follow it for approximately 2 miles. Charles Pinckney National Historic Site will be on the right.

From points north on Highway 17
Follow US-17 south into Mt. Pleasant. Take a right onto Long Point Road and follow Long Point for approximately ¾ mile. Charles Pinckney National Historic Site will be on the left.

From points south on Highway 17
Follow U.S.-17 north through Charleston and over the Cooper River Bridge. Continue on U.S.-17 for approximately 6 miles then turn left onto Long Point Road. Follow Long Point for approximately ¾ mile. Charles Pinckney National Historic Site will be on the left.


 Climate
 

Summers are generally hot and humid. Brief showers and thunderstorms are normal, especially in the afternoon. Spring and fall are temperate. Winters may be cool and damp with occasional periods below freezing. Snow is unlikely.

No Fees.
Organized groups such as schools, scouts, churches, etc. should call ahead and make a reservation. Contact the park for more information.


 Things To Do
 

Twenty-eight acres of a 715 acre plantation called Snee Farm are preserved in the park. In its open spaces are wayside exhibits along the 1/2-mile walking trail describing the existing house, archeological excavations, agricultural history and how neighboring water and wetlands contributed to the plantation.


 Indoor Activities
 

The visitor center is located in a Lowcountry farmhouse dated to circa 1828, after the Pinckney era. The museum exhibits are self-guiding with park staff available for interpretive services. A 20-minute orientation video is shown on request. Educational programs tailored for students and adults are offered throughout the year. Advance reservations for educational programs are required.
