Hilton Head Island Travel Information

Motel 6 South Carolina

Hilton Head Island distinguishes itself from the other Lowcountry islands by its resort style flair, and extensive planned communities. As soon as you arrive on Hilton Head, you’ll immediately notice Hilton Head’s faster pace. If high-end shopping, fine dining, exclusive clubs, and championship golf appeals to you, this is the Lowcountry Island to visit.

The Island is about 47 square miles, and features 12 unspoiled miles of public beach. Several conveniently placed beach access spots are located around the Island. Thanks to an average year-round temperature of 65 degrees, Hilton Head’s miles of well maintained bicycling and walking trails beg to be enjoyed.

Although the Hilton Head Island is much more developed than its neighbors, nature lovers will be excited to discover the 4,000 acre Pickney Island National Refuge located just a half mile off the coast. Salt marsh, forestland, and fresh water ponds are home to a variety of birds (including bald eagles), and photographing the island’s wildlife is a common pastime.

Hilton Head is about 25 miles from Beaufort, South Carolina and Savannah, Georgia. From I-95 take Exit 8 (US 278) and follow the signs for Hilton Head Island.
