Description
Sweeping through the peaks of the Blue Ridge Mountains and cutting into the hardwoods of Sumter National Forest, the Oscar Wigington Scenic Byway is especially thrilling in the autumn when the mountains are painted in red and gold and the scenic turnoffs are particularly inviting.
Oscar Wigington Scenic Byway follows Route 107 for 15 miles in South Carolina from Walhalla to the North Carolina border.
The Chattooga River chuckles playfully as it bounces rafters downstream and serves trout to the anglers. It seems giddy about the fact that it has been designated a National Wild and Scenic River. Equestrians ride along nature's route. Hikers and backpackers trek the mountain path while campers prepare to settle in for the night at Oconee State Park and Cherry Hill Recreation Area.
