Blue Ridge, Georgia Travel Guide

Complete Vacation, Recreation and Tourism Information

Blue Ridge, Georgia was incorporated in 1887, and serves as the county seat of Fannin County. It is named for the southern reach of the Appalachian Mountain Range that stretches into Fannin County. Blue Ridge developed as a center for business activity in the region, as a result of the arrival of the Marietta and North Georgia Railroad. The city also gained recognition as a choice health resort because of its pure mineral waters.

Visitors are advised to begin their exploration of Blue Ridge at the Historic Train Depot and Red Caboose Visitors Center. Galleries, antique shops, bookstores and cafes that are the mainstay of downtown Blue Ridge's Main Street are worth a look. A train excursion on the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway offers visitors a special treat.

Blue Ridge loves its festivals, and offers something for everyone. Its Arts in the Park Festival, held during Memorial Day Weekend, and Labor Day Barbecue are particularly popular with visitors and locals alike. Carriage rides are available at beautiful Blue Ridge City Park. Nearby Sugar Creek Music Park is an outstanding place to take-in a variety of concerts, from bluegrass to gospel.

For those looking for outdoor recreation, the short trip to Blue Ridge Lake is worth it. The lake features 100 miles of shoreline, with beaches, camping, fishing, and even a full service marina. Skilled hikers will enjoy the beauty found along the Benton MacKaye Trail.

Blue Ridge is located only a few miles south of the North Carolina boarder, in north Georgia. It is about 60 miles directly north of Atlanta.
