Description

Battery Warren, a Civil War earthen fort meant to block Union forces from moving up the Santee River, is one of the best preserved coastal fortifications still in existence. It is named for Colonel Samuel Warren, a local revolutionary war hero and previous owner of the land where the battery is built.

A one-mile interpretive trail takes visitors through a mature hardwood forest that leads to the high bluff and a viewing platform. Visitors get a view of the Santee River and the battery. The trail highlights the embankments of the old fort still visible today. The site is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places.
