Beaufort Travel Information

Motel 6 South Carolina

Beaufort is located along the southeast Atlantic coast of South Carolina, in an area commonly referred to as the Lowcountry. This charming southern town is situated on the island of Port Royal, one of the 65 plus islands that make up coastal Beaufort County.

Beaufort is a small town of about 13,000, with a reputation for offering genuine Southern hospitality. Its Spanish moss covered live oak trees, magnificent antebellum plantation homes and rich culture only add to its undeniable charm.

Beaufort’s entire downtown is designated a historic district by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. Museums, historic homes and noteworthy buildings dot downtown and offer endless accounts of Beaufort’s fascinating past. Horse drawn carriage rides provide a unique way to experience Beaufort’s beauty, while taking in a bit of its colorful history. Many of the significant homes are now award-winning bed and breakfasts.

A walk along Beaufort’s famous Bay Street provides opportunities for shopping and dining. Fine art galleries, antique shops, and modern boutiques are just a few of the many unique stores you’ll discover here. When you’re done shopping, try relaxing in a quaint coffee shop, dining on fine southern cuisine, or unwind with the locals at one of the many waterfront watering holes.

Outdoors enthusiast will thoroughly enjoy Beaufort’s incredible assortment of recreation activities. Kayaking, fishing, bicycling, and golfing are just a few of the popular choices. Many professional tour companies provide guided nature tours as well. Beaufort’s seven-acre Henry C Chambers waterfront park offers a 1,200 foot seawall promenade, swings, walking areas, playgrounds and a dynamic view of the Intracoastal Waterway.
