Description
Cruising through 11 miles of weeping Spanish moss, radiant azaleas, and magnolia plantations, the Ashley River Road rewinds the hands of time to a more genteel era. Magnificent mansions stand proudly along the roadside, reminiscent of their day in the sun.
Ashley River Road begins in Church Creek and runs along Route 61 for 11 miles.
Tours of the preserved plantations and estates along the way display the architectural beauty of the times as well as the meticulous landscaping, stables, and carriage houses that are open to the public.
Among the string of old churches perched along the Byway are St Andrew's Parish and Springfield Baptist Church. Some of these old houses have been calling the faithful to their doors since the birth of our nation. They are landmarks of history and thrilling to see.
