For the ultimate get-away-from-it-all experience; try Hesters Ferry Campground on J. Strom Thurmond Lake. There are no metropolitan areas, no tourist spots, no shopping---just 26 shaded campsites on the lake. Located on Fishing Creek, where it joins Thurmond Lake, this is reported to be some of the best fishing on the lake. All the sites in Hesters Ferry are on the water. Sites 1-16 are equipped with water and electrical hook-ups (30-amp). A separate loop has 10 primitive sites. Camping fees range from $16-$18 per night. Sites accommodate two tents or a RV and a tent. Pets are allowed if penned or leashed. Public use of alcohol is prohibited. Gates open at 7 a.m. and close
