Conscientiously developed, Hilton Head Island sports beyond its fine dining and well-groomed golf courses warm sandy beaches, biking trails and an agreeable climate.
Though rooted in the past thanks to its location in the 19th-century Columbia Mill textile building, the South Carolina State Museum offers visitors much more than just history. This multi-faceted cultural facility boasts galleries that range from machines to man-made. Get hands-on with exhibits on the Science and Technology floor, learn about local geology through Natural History displays, find ancient artifacts on the Cultural History floor and be sure to peruse the works on show in the Fine Arts galleries, where the exhibits, changed twice a year, range widely in theme but share a focus on creative efforts from the state. Also associated with the museum are a 4-D theater, a digital dome planetarium, and an observatory; check the daily schedule for information on show times.
